Sanctity of Human Life – Open House

Sanctity of Human Life Day falls on Sunday, January 20 this year. This marks the 46th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton Supreme Court decisions which legalized abortion in all nine months of pregnancy and throughout all 50 states, so long as the mother’s health is in jeopardy—including emotional stress from pregnancy. Beginning in 1984, President Ronald Reagan designated Sanctity of Human Life Day to be the third Sunday in January or closest representing the original January 22, 1973 date of the ruling. Reagan’s successor, George H. W. Bush, continued the annual proclamation throughout his presidency. Bush’s successor, Bill Clinton, discontinued the practice, but Bush’s son and Clinton’s successor, George W. Bush, resumed the proclamation. The proclamation was again discontinued in 2010 under Barack Obama. The pro-life community, however, has continued to set this day aside each year since it’s inception to pray for an end to abortion. Pregnancy Care Clinic offers pro-life material to community churches to assist in their remembrance of this day.
